How do Teacher Mode and Student Mode work?

Expand Classroom to share a live session with read-only student screens.

Overview

From About, choose Enter the Lab for the full simulator in Teacher Mode, or Join a class for Student Mode. In Teacher Mode, choose Start a live session beside Student screens. The panel opens with the student link and ten-character code to share. On another device, open that link or choose Student and enter the code. The teacher controls physiology, interventions, sweep and pause; students receive the current state and use the same synthetic waveform engine.

Student screens presents a full-width Student traces picker. Mirror my screen follows your visible traces. Choose traces starts with that selection; changing a checkbox also switches automatically to a custom student view without changing the teacher’s own screen. Waveforms and Studies group the choices, with Show all and Hide all affecting the student selection. Readouts and Views sit underneath. In a teaching case, Follow case shows revealed traces; custom choices only affect supported case channels as their data become available. When overlay access is enabled, students follow the teacher’s open/closed overlay, selected signals, pressure scale and gradient shading. Overlay settings stay teacher-controlled; students can still hover or tap the shared traces to inspect them. Student preview opens the read-only view in another tab. This panel describes the view being sent; it is not an attendance list or confirmation that every device has received it.

Students do not see the diagnosis beside Live hemodynamics or the Clinical Controls and Interventions panels. Rhythm labels and automatic ECG reads start hidden; paused ECG inspection gives general observation prompts until the teacher reveals Rhythm under Student screens. BP, LVEDP, wedge and forward-output switches independently control the main vital cards, compact readouts and revealed case measurements. Traces and the hemodynamic table have separate visibility settings; hiding a vital card does not redact those measurements from a visible trace or table. They can inspect paused traces. For a teaching case, only currently revealed waveform data are shared; the protected catalogue, future stages and discussions are not sent.

Updates usually arrive within about a second. Pause freezes the shared clock, and Resume restarts it. Keep the teacher tab visible for animation; when it becomes inactive the shared view freezes. A lost connection freezes the last view after a short grace period and reconnects automatically.

Sessions expire after six hours or when the teacher ends them. Keep the student link private to the class. The teacher’s write capability stays in that tab’s session storage, separate from the student link; reloading that tab can restore ownership. If recovery cannot connect, Retry saved session preserves the lesson instead of starting a new one. Closing the tab can lose ownership. Opening a student preview does not transfer teacher access.

This is a teaching aid, not an exam-security system. Students can leave and explore their own sandbox, and the data needed to render physiology are available in their browser. Do not enter patient information.

Step by step

  1. Choose Teacher → Start a live session beside Student screens.
  2. Share the code or Copy link from the same panel. Student preview opens the view students receive.
  3. In Student screens, choose student traces, Readouts and Views; then teach with Clinical Controls, Interventions and Pause.
  4. Choose End session when finished.
